چکیده

Levels of ubiquitin (Ub)-conjugated proteins, as an index of misfolded or damaged proteins, were measured in notothenioid Wshes, with both Antarctic (Trematomus bernacchii, T. pennellii, Pagothenia borchgrevinki) and non-Antarctic (Notothenia angustata, Bovichtus variegatus) distributions, as well as non-notothenioid Wsh from the Antarctic (Lycodichthys dearborni, Family Zoarcidae) and New Zealand (Bellapiscis medius, Family Tripterygiidae), in an eVort to better understand the eVect that inhabiting a sub-zero environment has on maintaining the integrity of the cellular protein pool. Overall, levels of Ub-conjugated proteins in cold-adapted Antarctic Wshes were signiWcantly higher than New Zealand Wshes in gill, liver, heart and spleen tissues suggesting that life at sub-zero temperatures impacts protein homeostasis. The highest tissue levels of ubiquitinated proteins were found in the spleen of all Wsh. Ub conjugate levels in the New Zealand N. angustata, more closely resembled levels measured in other Antarctic Wshes than levels measured in other New Zealand species, likely reXecting their recent shared ancestry with Antarctic notothenioids.

The effect of temperature adaptation on the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway in notothenioid fishes.

There is an accumulating body of evidence suggesting that the sub-zero Antarctic marine environment places physiological constraints on protein homeostasis. Levels of ubiquitin (Ub)-conjugated proteins, 20S proteasome activity and mRNA expression of many proteins involved in both the Ub tagging of damaged proteins as well as the different complexes of the 26S proteasome were measured to examine...

Constitutive roles for inducible genes: evidence for the alteration in expression of the inducible hsp70 gene in Antarctic notothenioid fishes.

Previous research on the Antarctic notothenioid fish Trematomus bernacchii demonstrated the loss of the heat shock response (HSR), a classical cellular defense mechanism against thermal stress, characterized by the rapid synthesis of heat shock proteins (Hsps). In the current study, we examined potential mechanisms for the apparent loss of the HSR in Antarctic notothenioids and, in addition, co...

In Vitro and in Vivo studies of the Effects of Cold Argon Plasma on Decreasing the Coagulation Time

Introduction Cold plasma is a self-sterilized, painless, and non-contact method in surgeries. These properties allow it to be applied to the living tissues and heat-sensitive parts. The aim of this study was to design a new cold plasma producer device and evaluate the effects of cold argon plasma on decreasing the coagulation time of blood drop in vitro and that of the injured liver blood in vi...

Expression Status of UBE2Q2 in Colorectal Primary Tumors and Cell Lines

Background: Activation of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway in various malignancies, including colorectal cancer, is established. This pathway mediates the degradation of damaged proteins and regulates growth and stress response. The novel human gene, UBE2Q2, with a putative ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme activity, is reported to be overexpressed in some malignancies. We sought to investigate the ...

Use of cold therapy in traditional and new medicine

Cold therapy are as an oldest method that used for treatment of truma and pain and as a folk remedy that use for relife of spasm and inflamation. Cold can exert a profound physiological effect on the body especially of reducing inflammation caused by injuries to the musculoskeletal system. Because reduction of inflammation is the primary goal, cryotherapy is the treatment of choise for the firs...
